Hi, Doing a lower amount of transactions than some “high flyers” does not make these folks automatically “unprofessional”. I am someone who is considered by many a “part timer”. That doesn’t make me unprofessional. Not even close. I also don’t have another job. I chose this “second career” after having had a “high flying” corporate job for a few decades. Let’s not paint everyone with the same brush.

I know the paperwork is double of a sale / purchase! 🙂

I love the idea of a minimum number of transactions a year rather than an income amount. In the areas where the average house price hovers around a million, $75,000 is too easy to reach. I agree with a comment above that licensing costs are really low for the potential income achievable. That said, it’s up to brokers and managers to stop hiring and/or keeping non producing registrants. I never could figure out why they did…

I love that you do that. This is how change happens. Ideas to be pondered and hopefully that start some discussions…..Says my optimistic side. Change in Real Estate is VERY difficult says my pessimistic side. I hope the leadership is reading and looking for some nuggets here. Thanks for taking the time to present your thoughts.

The whole focus of the RECO education system is to teach registrants about the legalities of working with clients. There’s nothing about understanding zoning bylaws for different municipalities, or the shifts in home building technology over the years, that should be important aspects of the home buying process. (E.g. what’s the difference between a home built in the 60’s with no perimeter drain and one built today, or what’s the real significance of having aluminum wiring or copper plumbing?)
Is it any wonder that fewer than 20% of people will adopt the idea of “REALTOR® for life.”
And then there is this attitude within many professions that “Because you spent the time to become a doctor or lawyer or engineer or accountant or real estate registrant, the world owes you the opportunity to continue in your chosen profession.” So, across the board, the punishment for misbehavior is a slap on the wrist. No profession needs to retain the “bad actors”, but the cost in terms of time and dollars to become a real estate registrant in relation to the potentail career earnings is ridiculously low.

How many realtors in history have ever handled 200 transaction in their entire careers ?

Why would 95% of Realtors allow less than 5% to openly imply their own incompetence?

No solution can be had with the Realtor trademark especially with it entering common use in Ontario through OREAs refusal to stop RECO from making it a legal designation.

Many are learning the way we are governed ,and I am thrilled .

Just a note we need to speak accurately about our profession. We are not licensed in Ontario we are registered.
We do not carry a license to practice in Ontario we carry a registration.

Accuracy matter the same as knowing how we are governed.

We could use some differentiation between working, practising, professional Realtors, and people who simply ‘have’ their license.
