Re/Max recently held its annual Activate Conference in Toronto. The company notes that attendees gained valuable insights, built meaningful connections and discovered innovative strategies to elevate their business. It shares several key moments of the event:

Basketball tournament and live auction in support of Children’s Miracle Network

Five basketball teams participated in the tournament, raising $4,000 for the Children’s Miracle Network.

Also, over $110,000 was raised for the organization during the live auction and several other breakout sessions including prize drawings. Donations raised will benefit the 13 Children’s Hospitals across Canada. The event featured CMN patient ambassadors Ava and Cash.

Alyssa Rae Johnson Fund hits $1 million milestone

Bruce Johnson, agent with Re/Max By The Bay Brokerage, and his family were also recognized for reaching the $1 million mark in donations for the Alyssa Rae Johnson Fund, benefitting the SickKids Hospital.

The network raised $165,635 at the conference to help reach this goal. Johnson was also awarded the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Community Care Award for his outstanding fundraising efforts, including his renowned Motorcycle for Miracles campaign.

Canada’s economic outlook: CIBC economist Benjamin Tal

At the event, Tal revealed that the real estate sector is facing its toughest challenge since the 1991 recession due to aggressive interest rate hikes from the Bank of Canada, which have inadvertently increased inflation through higher mortgage payments.

He predicts that interest rates will drop by 50-75 basis points this year, reaching about 2.5 per cent by the end of 2025, supporting a market recovery.

Artificial intelligence decoded

Dr. R. David Edelman, founder and director of Project TENS at MIT and former White House tech advisor, discussed artificial intelligence and its impact on our work and the world. He emphasized that these technologies can “transform our interactions,” and help improve business practices.

Arlene Dickinson: Entrepreneur, on CBC’s Dragons’ Den

Dickinson shared her entrepreneurial journey to becoming a visionary leader and influential figure in Canadian business. Despite facing numerous challenges in life, her vision, dedication and perseverance have been her guiding forces. She highlighted the importance of taking risks on yourself, regardless of fear or the opinions of others.

Bruce Johnson, a Wasaga Beach, Ont. sales rep, recently took another motorcycle adventure to raise funds for the Children’s Miracle Network.

On Aug. 1, to kick off Re/Max’s annual Month of Miracles fund-raising campaign, Johnson set off from his home in Wasaga Beach on a 10,000-km solo ride to Labrador, with a goal of raising $250,000 for CMN. He stopped at 10 CMN hospitals along the way, visited with children and families, and reached his fundraising goal. The ride, dubbed the “Road to a Million,” marked another significant milestone for Johnson, bringing his total funds raised for CMN to $1 million.

In 2018, Johnson went on the Ends of the Earth Ride, a 28,000-km journey from Tuktoyaktuk, N.W.T. to Ushuaia, Argentina). In 2016 he rode across Canada and in 2013 rode to Costa Rica, all to raise money for CMN and enlist “champion agents” throughout the Re/Max network.

“We hope to involve as many champion agents as possible with a minimum donation of $2,500,” says Johnson, who is with Re/Max By the Bay. “But no matter the size of the donation, we’re grateful to witness the spirit of generosity so that kids can be helped or even cured – and go on to the important business of being a kid again.”

He says the most recent ride holds a special significance for him. “Having raised $750,000 for CMN to this point, aiming for $250,000 on this ride was a natural goal. Also, I’m celebrating my 25th anniversary as a real estate agent and my 25th year supporting the Children’s Miracle Network, so there’s magic in this milestone.”

Johnson and his wife Mary lost their first child, Alyssa Rae, in 1998, after she spent 20 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at SickKids Hospital in Toronto. Before his first fundraising journey in 2013, the Johnsons set up the Alyssa Rae Johnson Fund at SickKids, with 100 per cent of donations benefitting sick and injured children and supporting medical research, education and patient care.

Johnson was honoured for his charitable efforts in 2019 with a National Association of Realtors Good Neighbor Award. He is the only Canadian recipient ever. He continues to champion the Re/Max Miracle Home and Miracle Commercial Property Program.

Justin Havre & Associates at Re/Max First in Calgary has donated $295,000 to Calgary partner charities for 2021. Since 2014, the team’s individual agents have raised $620,483 for Calgary and Canadian charities that work to help children and first responders overcome mental, physical, social and economic challenges.

As a partner of Children’s Miracle Network, Re/Max agents across Canada can donate funds and ensure their efforts support local hospitals in the communities they live and work, through the Re/Max Miracle Home Program. This donation directly benefits the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation. There are 100,000 kids and families who rely on the hospital each year.

“As a fundraising partner with Children’s Miracle Network, we are proud that we can continue to make a difference in changing the health of kids of all ages in Alberta,” says Havre. “It’s about making dreams come true, eradicating childhood disease and saving lives. We believe in advancing research and education that leads to the healthiest future for our kids.”

In keeping with its long-standing dedication and commitment to supporting Calgary’s first responders, Justin Havre & Associates is also the single biggest Calgary donator to Legacy Place Society, a non-profit group that works with the city’s peace officers, firefighters, emergency medical services, 911 dispatch and military personnel. “Mental health is among the most challenging issues we face today as a society – and as an industry,” says Havre. “Legacy Place Society shares our values of compassion, empathy, inclusion and respect for those that serve.”

Calgary Children’s Foundation raises money for small children’s charities that are especially challenged to be recognized without the means to mount large or sophisticated donation campaigns.

“This organization helps at-risk kids living below or on the poverty line and who are falling through the cracks at an alarming rate, unable to get the help they need to overcome their mental, physical and financial challenges,” says Havre. “We believe their simple and ‘larger-than-life’ programs are helping Calgary kids find confidence in a better future.” Since 2014, the team has raised $66,000 for Calgary Children’s Foundation.

Justin Havre & Associates has been Re/Max’s No. 1 team in Canada since 2018 for closed transactions and currently is currently the No. 2 team in the world in the Re/Max network.
